**OCTAL** is a roguelike arcade shooter played on a green terminal.

Hold **SPACE** to fire and aim with the mouse. When the swarm closes in, **type**: left click writes a **1**, right click a **0**, and three bits make a code. Four codes are your deck of commands (overclock, scatter, laser, nova, a black hole...), and the ones running at the same time combine: scatter and nova shape your volleys together, and even the laser takes the shape of the combo.

- **30 waves**, 3 mini bosses and 3 bosses, and at the end your own ship turned against you

- **12 commands** to build your deck from, **69 upgrades** in 8 families, a shop with rerolls and locks

- level ups and stat points, **5 weapons** that fly in formation with you, drones and turrets

- a curved CRT screen, scanlines and all

- a tutorial at every launch, if you want it

Feedback from giving this ten minutes:

- Wow, you need to be a seasoned pianist to play this on a laptop

- Visuals look quite nice, though I wish there was an option to disable the CRT effect scanlines and warping

- Sound not working here for some reason, tried two browsers. Works fine in other games.

- Not sure about the "commands". I think the entire mechanic is reducible to "mash LLLLLRLRRRRR periodically, make no mistakes". Using keyboard to fire at the cursor which you aim with the mouse feels extra clumsy.

- The total amount of mechanics seems a bit overwhelming. Maybe they can be introduced gradually somehow? E.g. there's three interstitial upgrade screens (level up point distribution, shop, freebie). Both shops and freebies offering both abilities and other types of upgrades feels like a bit of a mixed bag.

- Having to choose between upgrading stats or abilities seems awkward. Maybe that could be split into two currencies?

- Tutorial uses the word "permanent" but I don't think it carries into the next run which is what that usually means

Overall promising, maybe just needs a bit of structure!

Thank you so much for the honest feedback, this really helps, I’ ll try to make it better
